Although I don’t just work with children, adolescents and families, this is an area of focus for me. With children and adolescents treatment will often focus on the entire family to make lasting gains. While it can be difficult at times to get everyone involved, this typically produces the best results. Treatment that ignores the family system is usually not as successful when dealing with children and adolescents. The length of treatment varies from case to case. Together we can decide how often and for what length of time you may need to come. Lasting change requires consistency and it can take some time to develop the necessary habits to encourage success. In addition to private practice I work as a therapist in the TCOOMMI Program of MetroCare Services. The TCOOMMI Program provides individual and family counseling to juvenile offenders with mental health needs in Dallas County. In the TCOOMMI program I provide counseling to the juvenile offenders in Dallas County considered most at risk for not successfully completing probation and teach them the skills to not only be successful on probation but also to make improvements in their home lives, school behaviors and peer interactions. My experience has taught me a great deal about how to work with individuals with diverse and often quite challenging circumstances in their lives who find themselves in crisis. It is my job to assist my clients in achieving positive outcomes. I am continually amazed at how much adversity people can overcome to be successful and strong individuals.
